Our support for Orange Sky van and volunteers in Darwin

Now in its 10^th year, Orange Sky Australia has grown into a powerful driver of connection for local communities and support for people experiencing homelessness or hardship.  

We’re proud to continue our support of the charity’s Darwin service for the second year in a row with a $90,000 contribution from The Lott by Tatts NT unclaimed prize money.

The funding will allow Darwin’s Orange Sky van to keep offering the essential services of clean laundry and safe hot showers as well as a positive space for connection to those in the Top End doing it tough.

In the past 12 months, the van provided 1,475 loads of free laundry and 1,528 showers, with volunteers engaging in 1,400-plus hours of non-judgemental conversation and connection with the local community.

Our Partnerships Manager Liz McPherson said today’s funding represented our continued support to help foster positive change in NT communities. 

“This contribution to Orange Sky Australia’s service in Darwin will enable more individuals in need to access consistent laundry and shower facilities.” 

Orange Sky CEO Lucas Patchett said there’s never been a more important time for the charity’s vans and volunteers to be out on the streets of Australia each and every day supporting those in need.

“With the rise in cost of living and the rental crisis, Orange Sky has never been busier,” he said.  

“We aren’t just seeing people experiencing homelessness coming to our shifts, we are seeing families, retirees, students and middle-aged women and men, even people with current employment are coming to us for help, as many people are finding it tough to make ends meet.

“Orange Sky couldn't do what we do without the support of the incredible community and partners like The Lott by Tatts NT. With their help, we can continue to provide our essential services of clean laundry, safe showers and positive connection for people experiencing homelessness and hardship across Darwin.”
