Starlight Children’s Foundation is helping create a brighter future for more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in remote communities through its Healthier Futures initiative.

We’re proud to today contribute $100,000 from The Lott by Tatts NT unclaimed prize money to the project, which 98% of its partnering health teams rate as having significant impact.

At the heart of the program is the Captain Starlight figure who provides positive distraction for kids through song, dance, games and storytelling to make vital health checks less intimidating.

When Captain Starlight visits, there is a significant increase in the number of children receiving care. Captain Starlight also helps bring children out of their shell.

“What happens in childhood lasts a lifetime, and we know that when healthcare participation increases, health outcomes improve."

Starlight Children’s Foundation Partnership Executive Doreen Smith

Our Partnerships Manager Liz McPherson said the positive impact of Healthier Futures was felt throughout entire communities.

“We are so proud to continue our support of the initiative,” she said.

“We look forward to hearing more stories about Captain Starlight's visits to communities to ensure these kids are having positive healthcare experiences and get the checks they need.”
